FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, April 30, 2024) – Ensemble Arts Philly announces its highly anticipated 2024-2025 Jazz Season, encompassing an extraordinary spectrum of styles and artists from around the world. From fresh and emerging talents to seasoned favorites, audiences can expect an array of musical experiences that appeal to both classical enthusiasts and jazz aficionados.

 

With a blend of classic and contemporary acts, the season begins on October 19, 2024, with the sizzling sounds of Afro-Cuban All Stars; continuing on November 2, 2024, with returning favorites Pink Martini Featuring China Forbes, and with gypsy jazz legends, the Django Festival All-Stars, on November 16, 2024; and wrapping up the calendar year with holiday joy from vocal powerhouse and three-time Grammy® Award-winning artist Samara Joy, joined by the McLendon Family, on December 23, 2024. A favorite of Philly jazz fans, the season concludes with the legendary Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis on June 15, 2025.

Ticket packages for Ensemble Arts Philly’s 2024-25 Jazz Series go on sale to the public today, Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Packages start at $36.00 per show. Save 10% by purchasing a 2-show package.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999 or online at www.ensembleartsphilly.org. In-person ticket sales can be conducted daily from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Academy of Music Box Office, located at 240 S. Broad Street. See www.ensembleartsphilly.org for more information.

AFRO-CUBAN ALL STARS

Miller Theater

Saturday, October 19, 2024 I 7:30 p.m.

 

Dare you not to dance! This legendary band and its leader Juan de Marcos have done more than perhaps any other artistic entity to both preserve and expand the music of Cuba, showcasing its most venerable players and newest stars. Now veterans of world tours, the band grew out of the now-classic Buena Vista Social Club, a landmark recording—and musical movement—dedicated to reintroducing the world to the irresistible music of Cuba, from the sexy son to the sinuous bolero and beyond.

 

Surrender to a musical experience that is, simply, “Magnificent!  With horns at full cry, percussion swinging freely and powerhouse vocals unleashing glorious waves of sound…this is music that delights connoisseurs…yet seduces casual listeners with its gently swaying backbeats and sexy, perpetually danceable tempos. PINK MARTINI FEATURING CHINA FORBES

A ‘little orchestra’ launched in Portland, Oregon, in 1994 by Thomas Lauderdale, Pink Martini cuts across genres of pop and jazz to celebrate the world’s musical diversity with a hypnotic sound that transcends cultures and languages. After more than 30 years and eleven albums, they’ve crafted a style that is entirely their own and are hailed as an international sensation. 

 

This performance is a co-presentation with BRE Presents.

 

DJANGO FESTIVAL ALL-STARS

The Django Festival All-Stars represent a captivating ensemble deeply rooted in the spirited tradition of gypsy jazz pioneered by the legendary Django Reinhardt. Renowned for their virtuosic performances and infectious energy, this ensemble brings together some of the finest musicians dedicated to honoring and evolving the legacy of Reinhardt's iconic sound. SAMARA JOY: JOYFUL HOLIDAY FEATURING THE MCLENDON FAMILY

Two-time Grammy® Award-winning vocalist Samara Joy, one of jazz’s newest stars, returns to the Kimmel Center to celebrate the holidays following a sold-out 2023 engagement! Her voice, rich and velvety yet precociously refined, has already earned her fans like Anita Baker and Regina King, along with appearances on The TODAY Show, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, CBS Mornings, MSNBC, The Kelly Clarkson Show, The Jennifer Hudson Show, and more. In addition, she’s earned millions of likes on TikTok – cementing her status as the first Gen Z jazz star. Joy comes from a musical family with deep roots in Philadelphia, and for this Joy-ous occasion she is joined members of her talented musical family to deliver a joyful holiday celebration that blends jazz, gospel, and R&B.
